Seagrass Doublewall
|
Weave 2/2 twill base with color and natural
reeds, stop and start the inside wall with color. Chase weave the outer wall
with 2 pieces of #0 seagrass. Incorprate a piece of #6 round reed to the rimming
and lashing process. Lash with artificial sinew.

Charm Basket
Necklace
|
In this workshop you'll learn how to make a miniature vessel using a
knotless netting technique. This technique of repetitive stitching offers a
very relaxing process that is also very portable. We'll be using waxed linen
for this project. Bring your special beads that have been sitting in a box
or someplace special because they were too special to use. This is a perfect
place to treasure them as you wear them. A three or four-strand braid will
finish off the neckpiece nicely. I made my first charm basket necklace over
20 years ago, and it is as fresh as the day it was made. Bring beads that
will slide onto 4-ply waxed linen and a sharp small scissors. Instructor
will have extra small bags of beads for sale.

Potato Basket
|
This is a classic rib basket woven on a 12” hoop that is made to carry and
store items. Traditionally used to hold potatoes, it can be used for
anything from yarn to dog treats! The finished basket will be approximately
12x8 This basket is appropriate for every skill level and is a good beginner
rib basket. This basket will take 6 hours to complete. Skills used in this
basket are; a unique lashing, adding ribs, learning how to weave “short
rows”, forming a handle short of the rim, weaving with a variety of
materials for texture and color, and how to stop and start different
materials.

Twined Basket
|
Let's explore some possibilities using an ancient twining technique and
cotton cord. This is a class for individuals that prefer to work with a slow
and tedious technique and material. You'll learn a satisfying way to twine
with the repetitiveness creating a relaxing process. This project is
inviting to pick up and take with you. I like that it's so portable. No
soaking materials, no dying materials, and the project will fit in a small
container to take with. You'll add a row or so of large-eyed stone beads,
which comes with an extra cost of $12 - $14/strand (approximately 40 beads).
A nice variety to choose from-Rose Quartz, Aventurine, Yellow Jade, Jasper,
and others. You might want to find your own beads, which would need a hole
size of 1.5 mm to allow the fiber to go through the center. Size varies,
approximately 3” x 5”.
The photo is a sample, and is much larger than
will be made in class because of time. You will see how to finish your piece
before class is finished. Twining experience helpful!

Oval Sieve
|
A remake on a classic style willow basket, the Oval Sieve is easy in
construction and easy to weave. The double rim frame is made of willow with
hand finished wood bars in a choice of woods such as walnut, oak and cherry.
This is a very functional and beautiful basket. An excellent basket to
experience that first time "feel of willow."

A Little Twist
|
There is something magical about baskets and this one is no exception. Learn
to blend colors by using copper strips and copper wires for spokes and fine
colored wire as a twining material. The basket makes "a little twist" as new
spokes are added. A basket that will capture your imagination and bring a
little of that magic into your life.

Weaving the Local Landscape
|
Explore some techniques of traditional stake and strand willow basketry
while incorporating a fun twist: bark! Working with willow shoots and your
choice of bark, create a unique basket that reflects Minnesota’s landscape.
Students will begin with a pre-made base, and have a variety of barks to
choose from and incorporate. Material harvest and preparation will be
discussed. |

|
Dark chocolate brown spokes paired with deep spruce green twill for
contrast. We use very narrow natural reed to weave a continuous twill, then
accent with triple twining. The mid rows are deep spruce green, upwards we
go. A swinging handle and tri-lashing the rim completes our basket. Showy
and beautiful.

Pine Needle Basket with 2 Slices

This visually appealing basket is made with
glycerine treated long pine needles (10-14”) utilizing 2 slices of black
walnut as the base. Imitation sinew is used to stitch it together. The

It's a Charm

a double slot wood base. The inner basket weaves up fast to allow time for
